At Dental Serenity in Dumfries, VA near Woodbridge, VA, our main goal is to ensure our patients have a beautiful, healthy smile. Unfortunately, situations do arise where a tooth extraction may be necessary to protect your overall oral health. Some of the common reasons we perform tooth extractions at our Dumfries dental office include:
Simple Tooth Extraction
A simple tooth extraction is performed when the patient has a visible, correctly erupted tooth that needs to be removed. Before the procedure, your dentist will numb the area to lessen discomfort. Using a specialized dental tool known as an “elevator,” your tooth will be loosened. Once loosened, forceps will then be used to remove the affected tooth.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
For many of our patients, wisdom teeth unfortunately do not erupt properly. In these situations, where wisdom teeth become impacted or infected, extracting them may be necessary. If you are wondering whether your wisdom teeth may cause complications and need extraction, contact our Dumfries dental office to schedule an evaluation appointment.
After your tooth extraction, we will discuss treatment options available to replace the missing tooth if necessary. We will also discuss post extraction instructions and a regimen to follow. You should avoid anything that may prevent normal healing or increase bleeding. Be sure to rinse your mouth gently for cleaning. Brushing and flossing can resume as normal; however, do not clean the socket or the teeth next to the extraction area.
